Top AI Forensic Video Search Platforms for Enterprise Security Teams (2026)

AI forensic video search platforms let a security team find a specific moment in recorded footage by describing it in plain language, instead of scrubbing through timestamps camera by camera. The category includes established VMS vendors that added AI search on top of existing platforms, camera companies that bundled search into their own hardware, and newer AI-native tools built around search from the start. Below are seven platforms enterprise security teams evaluate most often, compared on what differs between them: whether the search runs on real natural language or attribute filters, whether it locks you into proprietary cameras, and whether it can run on-premise.

How we compared them

Each entry is based on the vendor's own product pages and documentation, checked in September 2026. We looked at three things a buyer can verify without a sales call:

  1. Search type: free-text natural language, or attribute filters with a search box on top.
  2. Camera lock-in: does it work with cameras and footage you already have.
  3. On-premise: can footage stay inside the building.

Capabilities and pricing change. Verify directly with the vendor before a purchase decision.

Comparison table: AI video search platforms at a glance

The platforms compared

1. BriefCam

BriefCam, now under Milestone/Canon, is one of the older names in video analytics, built around its Video Synopsis technology that compresses hours of footage into a short overlay, plus filtering by attributes like color, object type, direction and appearance similarity.

Key features: video synopsis summarization, face and license-plate recognition, deep integration with Milestone XProtect.

Best for: organizations already running Milestone XProtect that want analytics layered on top without switching VMS.

2. Verkada

Verkada is a cloud camera company first. AI-powered search is a feature of its own hardware and software stack, not a layer you add to cameras you already own. Search accepts freeform text and Boolean operators, plus reverse image search from an uploaded photo.

Key features: freeform natural-language search, Boolean search operators, reverse image search, a unified cloud dashboard across cameras, access control and alarms.

Best for: organizations willing to standardize on Verkada's own camera hardware in exchange for a fully managed cloud platform.

3. Avigilon

Avigilon, part of Motorola Solutions, offers two products: Alta, a cloud platform, and Unity, an on-premise system. Search works through natural-language alert prompts layered on top of its detection engine, and the platform integrates with third-party cameras in addition to Avigilon's own.

Key features: natural-language alert prompts, appearance search, compatibility with Avigilon and third-party camera hardware, choice of cloud (Alta) or on-premise (Unity) deployment.

Best for: larger organizations that want deployment flexibility and are comfortable evaluating a Motorola-backed platform at enterprise scale.

4. Vaidio

Vaidio, from Iveda, positions itself as infrastructure agnostic: it integrates with more than 30 VMS platforms and effectively any camera, and it can deploy on edge devices, on-premise servers, Kubernetes or the cloud. Its search is described as semantic, returning results from natural-language queries.

Key features: semantic video search, 30+ VMS integrations, flexible deployment across edge, on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.

Best for: organizations with a mixed camera and VMS environment that don't want to standardize on one hardware vendor.

5. Coram AI

Coram AI is a newer, venture-backed entrant built around its Discover search feature, which runs natural-language queries against footage processed on Coram's own on-premise appliance, the Coram Point. It works with Coram's own cameras and can add AI search to existing cameras through the same appliance.

Key features: natural-language search through Discover, on-premise processing via Coram Point, a cloud dashboard for mobile access, compatibility with existing and Coram-branded cameras.

Best for: organizations that want on-premise processing without managing their own GPU servers, in exchange for Coram's appliance hardware.

6. GuardMind Recall

GuardMind Recall does one thing: upload video, ask in natural language, get timestamped clips of matching events. The source can be an NVR export, cloud storage, an SD card, a phone clip or a body camera file. No live connection to a camera network required. It works on video that already exists.

Recall is self-serve. New accounts get roughly an hour of free processing. Paid credit packs start at $29, the price is on the site, and uploaded video is deleted automatically 30 days after upload.

Key features: natural-language search across an uploaded recording, timestamped exportable clips, self-serve signup, 30-day automatic deletion of uploaded footage.

Best for: teams that need to search footage from more than a fixed camera network, including exports, phone clips, body cameras and SD cards, and that want to try the tool before talking to anyone. Recall is a forensic search tool for recorded footage. Real-time monitoring on live RTSP streams is a separate GuardMind product, Reflex, currently in paid pilots, pre-GA.

7. Spot AI

Spot AI markets itself around AI agents for security, safety and operations rather than search specifically, though search is part of the platform. It's built to be camera agnostic, working with ONVIF-compliant cameras across 100+ brands, and it stores full-resolution video locally while sending only metadata to the cloud.

Key features: ONVIF compatibility across 100+ camera brands, local video storage with cloud metadata sync, pre-built AI agents for security, safety and operations use cases.

Best for: organizations that want one platform covering more than search, including safety and operations alerts, and that are comfortable with search being one feature among several rather than the core product.

How to choose a video search tool

A few questions cut through most of the differences above:

  • Is the search natural language, or attribute filters with a search box on top? Verkada, Vaidio, Coram and GuardMind confirm free-text natural-language search on their own product pages. For any platform, verify this directly with the vendor before you buy.
  • Does it lock you into the vendor's own cameras? Verkada requires its own hardware. BriefCam, Avigilon, Vaidio, Coram, Spot AI and GuardMind all work with cameras or footage you already have, to varying degrees.
  • Can it run fully on-premise if your footage can't leave the building? BriefCam, Avigilon (through Unity), Vaidio and Coram support on-premise deployment. Verkada and GuardMind Recall's self-serve product are cloud-based.
  • Is it built for forensic search on recorded footage, real-time monitoring, or both? Most platforms on this list bundle both. GuardMind Recall and BriefCam focus on forensic search of recorded footage. GuardMind covers live-stream monitoring with a separate product, Reflex, in paid pilots today, pre-GA.

FAQ

Is GuardMind Recall a replacement for my existing VMS or camera system?

No. Recall searches recorded footage from whatever system already captures it, whether that's a VMS, an NVR, cloud storage, or a file from a phone or body camera. It doesn't replace the recording infrastructure.

Which of these platforms support true natural-language search?

GuardMind Recall, Verkada, Avigilon (through alert prompts), Vaidio and Coram AI all accept free-text queries on their own product pages. Spot AI includes search but positions the platform around AI agents rather than search. BriefCam doesn't state its search type explicitly on its product pages; check directly with the vendor.

Which platforms can run entirely on-premise?

BriefCam, Avigilon (through its Unity product), Vaidio and Coram AI (through its on-premise Coram Point appliance) support on-premise or hybrid deployment. Verkada is cloud-only. GuardMind Recall's self-serve product runs in the cloud.

Can I search CCTV footage with AI without installing new cameras?

Yes. BriefCam, Avigilon, Vaidio, Coram AI, Spot AI and GuardMind Recall all work with existing cameras or exported footage. Verkada does not.
